I picked up a Crosman NPSS,last week. I've been messing around with the gun for a while now,and kinda like the advantage of leaving it cocked, while hunting. The trigger isn't the greatest, but is fine for a plinker/hunter. Mine shoots CPL's @ 870fps average. I think it's a little low,but maybe after some more shooting,it will pick up a little. For the price it's hard to pass by. Ron

Ron,
Thanks for the comments I have one on its way. Strictly for lite use small vermin control. Trigger wise I have had the worst and best and can adapt. The Mark IV Blade setback trigger on the MKII was one of the best I have ever pulled but the gun price is roughly 6-7 times the cost of the NPSS.
Let me know how the gun breaks in I am getting the 22 caliber and will do a Chrony once the gun settles down.
Have a good one...

Hi guys!
I bought a NPSS in 0.177 this past summer. Here some random thoughts after about 2000 rounds.
Mine broke after about 50 shots (wouldn't cock and made a grinding noise when attempting to cock). I returned it to Crosman free of charge. They fixed it and had it back to me in about a week (not bad).
I thought the trigger was pretty rough at first, but it has grown on me. I replaced the stock trigger spring with a lighter one from a hardware store. It makes a big difference. Trigger spring swap is super easy and can be put back to stock configuration no problem.
After about 500 rounds, the breech seal was pretty well shredded. I e-mailed Crosman and they sent me a free replacement. This one has held up better, but is starting to fray a little.
The included scope is actually pretty nice. It looks almost identical to my Hawke Air-Max. I would bet its made in the same factory. Crisp focus, good clarity, holds zero, looks nice.
Mine seems to like JSB 8.4 the best, but I need to try more pellets.
Overall accuracy and power are pretty good. I was able to drop a starling at 80 yards (lucky shot). Very quiet for the power level, but R7 is still quieter.
I like the safety design better than that of the R7. Simple on/off works very well.
I'm having issues with hold sensitivity, but I'm not very good with springers. My R7 is more accurate in my hands. If anyone has some pointers, I'd really appreciate it.
Hope this helps, please feel free to chime in with opinions/questions.

I have heard of a few guns with problem you mentioned they were quickly exchanged or repaired. I primary shoot PCP guns but in my early years owned the AA pro elte, RWS 350 and a few R9's. I have to agree the R7 is just point and shoot from a springer standpoint I have had to work on holds for all the other springers.
Will give this a go I have always conquered most guns I have owned always up for a new challenge! The one that gave me fits was the RWS 350 it was on and off with that gun.
BTW,
Thanks for the feedback on the NPSS.

Tony Tony, mine likes to be held with the left thumb, right behinde the bolt hole on the forearm. Infact I drilled a small hole in the forearm, and put a small screw in it,then a dab of epoxy to smooth it out, so my thumb would feel it,when it was in the right position. I use a firm hold on the rear of the stock, and just lay it in my front hand. There is a after market trigger for the gun,and I'm sure as it gains popularity, there will be more, but the spring change works pretty well. If the gun had a record trigger,it would be about perfect. I like the fact you can leave it cocked, while hunting. Ron http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d86/rks1949/air%20guns/102_0316.jpg

Have a good one... Hey Marv! I'll look forward to the report. I sometimes wish I had picked up the 22cal too! But I have tons of CPL's in the shop, and it drives tacks with them,so I kinda leaned towards the .177.Ron

Thanks for the advice. I do something similar in that I actually stick my pinky in the bolt hole of the stock. That would put my hand a little further forward. I will try to copy your hold and see if that helps.
I had been trying to hold the rear of the stock as loosely as possible. Maybe a firm hold will work better. When you say firm hold, do you mean firmly into your shoulder, a firm grip at the trigger area, or both?
Thanks!

I hold the gun into my sholder pretty solid,I guess I have a firm grip on the trigger area (pistol grip too!:)) The front of the stock just more,or less lays in the palm of my hand with my fingers/thumb around it. I couldn't get good groups holding the front area of the forearm, but my R9 loves that hold. I guess every gun is diffrent. Ron

Shot the NPSS some more last night. I set up the crony, and got a average of 894fps so it has increased in velocity some. I think the piston seal was a little tight, and needed to break in some. So far the gun is a shooter. The scope is ok,not bad,but not great either, but it works and you can't beat the price :D! The gun just loves CPL's,so I'm set up! Ron

The scope is a Leapers, not a Hawke. Hawke doesn't sell scopes to Crosman. The Leapers looks similar but is a step down from a Hawke Air Max. Just an FYI

You can't expect a Bentley at a Buick price. !!!
It has to be better than the $15.00 scope I am using on a borrowed CO2 gun...
