View Full Version : Weihrauch HW50s muzzle attachment
I'm going to remove the iron sights from my HW50s and use a scope. I'm wanting to add a muzzle attachment/brake to the air rifle as I like the looks. The only experience I have with air rifle muzzle attachments are with a B26-2 I purchased. That device is held on by opposing grub screws which tighten directly against the barrel of the B26-2. I do not wish to do that to my HW50s. Is there a muzzle attachment which utilizes the machining grooves which the existing front sight resides in? The thought of twisting screws into the sides of my HW50s makes me want to cringe.

I use the Beeman ported muzzle brake and bore it out to fit the HW50S barrel. The front sight dovetails will have to be filed off with a rasp or Dremel tool. I use Loctite 680 retaining compound to fasten the brake to the barrel. It's permanent.

The Beeman Universal muzzle brake has an arrangement using shims. The grub screw presses on the shims. Pretty non-destructive.
Another solution is dropping a piece of lead shot into each screw hole, with the grub screw pressing in turn on the shot, deforming it and securing the barrel. Again, supposedly non-marring (I say" supposedly" because I have not personally tried it - although it sounds like it would work well).
Rob's 680 suggestion will also work, of course. I have done a couple that way.
The shim approach sounds safe enough. I think I'll go that route.

I second the Beeman Universal. It is well made, great finish and the shims that come with it allow you to easily install in minutes without having to permanently lose your iron sights. That's what I used on my customized HW50S, that way I can always go back to the iron sights whenever I want to and have both options. The trouble is in finding the Beeman Universal. Beeman doesn't seem to have any of their old accessories like that anymore...:(

t165,
If you still have them and if you have no use for the iron sight (front and rear), I'd like to buy them.
Please let me know if you are willing to sell these to me. I am in India.

I tried the shims and shot on my brake. Seperately and together. Even Loctited the 3 set screws. It didn't hold. The shim shifted off the set screws from the inertia of the spring recoil and marred the barrel. I didn't want a permanent brake attachment in case I ever wanted to go back to the match aperture sights, so I didn't epoxy the brake to the barrel. If you are going to be dedicated to scope use, I suggest doing what R Hawkins advised.
