I sure am glad I decided to unscope the R7. It does its pest control and plinking job with no trouble out to 30 yards. I got fiber-optics sights installed (thanks to Rob Hawkins!) and the rifle feels like I can put it in the pocket; so light, compact, and super easy to operate. Don't even hesitate about purchasing one and think twice before you sell it :-)

I agree, the R7 is so nice to shoot with sights. I have a Williams peep on mine right now and just love it. Great shooting!

Great shooting Ambush Hunter, the R7/HW30S are some great shooters and I got a scope on the R7 .177; a red dot and fiber on the R7 .20 cal for when the sights desire hits, and fiber on the 30S .22. The fiber sights sure light things up for these older eyes.

You know Ed and Parallax, I thought about putting a red dot on it, but I just couldn't find the one I like...And of course, I am NOT going to buy a mil-spec one that cost twice as much as the R7! LOL

LoL, yeah, you did better by doing it the way you did!

Bullshooter introduced me to the Hawke Red Dot. At our shooting and sausage grilling day during the Thanksgiving Holiday weekend, he was tearing up the Steel Plinkers bull at 30 yards with his Rob Hawkins Full Tune & Trigger Tune R7 .177 Goldfinger with Hawke Red Dot. I even tagged the bull and the following day I called Kevin at SS and ordered me the same Red Dot. Reasonably priced too.

Ed, I see you got 97 coming in, woo-hoo, you gonna love her for sure:p The only thing missing now is a good PCP or two...or three...

Nice shooting there, AH-it sure feels good to shoot groups like that with open sights. My HW30 is staying open-sighted; I decided that right from the get-go. Plinking with that little sweetheart is an absolute blast-I just love hitting a pellet tin at 25 yards with the open sights, hearing the SMACK, and seeing the two halves go flying off in opposite directions.
Too bad it's off getting tuned by David Slade right now-I'd love to try it out on the starlings!

Thanks AH, I am really looking forward to the HW97K. I have read so many good things from you guys who own them.
I just may have to look into a good PCP rifle in the future - but I am sure enjoying my springers for now.

Thanks, DA and Ed. Yeah, we all enjoy springers more, but those who regularly hunt, a PCP is the way to go due to a better accuracy potential, ease of operation, extra energy if needed, and an excellent ability to buck the wind. Besides, springers don't let you to be still because there are lots of movement you'd have to do to load/reload it. And it cannot be left loaded for too long...if you are ambushing (my favorite, hehe:p), then PCP is the only way. Just my 2 cents.
Good shooting! Boy those sights look familliar (HW 30S). Am I correct?
I own a 30S which is in Limbo right now, having it's scope removed last week in hopes of a new Beeman/Williams apreture sight's arriving asap.
Due to a shipping error ar AOA it will have to wait another week to get new sights but it's going to make a fine plinker/Garden gun!
It's funny how one can put off buying the perfect rifle for years and years by buying alternates and trying to build the perfect Garden rifle. You buy several similar brands and modify them to get the same preformance HW offers right out of the box!
I spent a year, a lot of nervous days and a small amount of money building my first Garden Rifle.
It all started off with a pristine Diana Model 25D.
Now the 25D has the Diana 3 Ball trigger, but is a domestic German version which has the Diana Model 5 Pistol mainspring (Built that way for some anal German reason?) Velocity was 525 fps in .177 cal. It is fitted with a VERY good quality barrel (Maybe for 7m Pub Shooting?) and the combination of low velocity and great trigger and barrel makes for a very nice indoor shooter! The 25D is a rather rare model and unless you are a collector orwant to change mainsprings you might want to pass on this low powered rifle. Now that you know the attributes of the rifle it just might fit into a nitche for 7-10m indoor shooting.
I searched around and found that the Maccari R7 mainspring fit the guide perfectlly and only needed a minimum shim to get it fitted. At the time, I ordered the laswt one of JM's R7 run, and when I finally got the nerve to attempt reassembly of the Diana 3 Ball Sear, I assembled the rifle.
I missed on measuring for the shim by about .020 by accident but once getting the frustrating 3 ball installed I decided to leave well enough alone... After the frustration of several attempts at containing the balls with dabs of grease, several "New" words, and a couple hours of time, I got the trigger ggroup in and the stock on!
Shooting impressions of the rifle indicated just at 700fps (My target velocity) and the hint for a suitable scope was on.
By chance at a locak gun shop, I located a used Hy-Score 4x in their used Scope display and I quickly shelled out the $25 for it!
Now a vintage hopped-up rifle with a proper vintage era scope mounted, I had finished the "Perfect Garden Gun" 7oo fps , great trigger Highly accurate barrel and small light size!
Then I bought the HW30S and except for buying too large a scope for it, I bought an out of the box perfect Garden gun! I suppose that unless you enjoy building your own perfect rifle as I did you should follow the advice of the muses and just buy a HW30S/R7 (deoending on which stock you like) and you will save a lot of time.
Scoped, or as I prefer mine open sighted, this rifle is one of the truely "Must Haves" of the airgun world!

Good group! The sights look just like the ones that came stock on my HW30S!
When I got the 30S I scoped it and used too large of a scope. Lately I have been reading posts about open sighted HW 30S/R7's and decided that I infact had unbalanced my rifle.
I have a Beeman/ Williams Peep on order right now and I KNOW it will surely once again balance this nice "Garden Gun"
BTW, I spent the best part of a summer a couple years back building the "perfect" Garden Gun.
I modified a Diana Model 25D with a JM R-7 mainspring, Kitchen table tune and mounted a "Bonus Find" of a real vintage Hy Score 4x scope on it! Velocity is 700+/- fps and with theextra high quality barrel of the rifle and the famous Diana 3 Ball sear, it made for a really nice rifle!
I then bought the 30S and got the same package withoput all the work!
The R7/HW 30s (depending on the stock you prefer) is definatelly a MUST-HAVE in your airgun battery!
